Community regeneration in north Manchester.
When the Avecia chemical works in north Manchester began to downsize, it created an opportunity for much needed investment in new housing. The design framework clustered higher density housing around traditional high street retailing, with larger family housing on the edges, connected to the green infrastructure of the river valley and the hilltop common. These plans were endorsed through several rounds of public consultation and approved by Manchester City Council.L-R | Final concept plan; historic mapping was a key input; the north Manchester neighbourhood network; Main image - figure ground showing new development in red.
